This year I had the opportunity to job shadow someone who works in my field of interest (My interest being Linguistic Anthropology). When reaching out I chose to reach out to a local linguistic anthropology professor, John Haviland, in hopes of sitting in on his class and office hours. I wanted the opportunity to talk to him about how he teaches and why he chose to do what he does. I sat in on his Language in Society class and talked with him during his office hours afterwards. I took a lot of notes and learned a huge amount in just one class. I talked to him about being a professor and what that is like and how to manage your time with researching and being a professor. Talking to him was very helpful and I learned a lot about being a professor and a linguistic anthropologist at the same time. It was an amazing experience and learning more about this subject really helped cement my interest of it.
